Mission
The First-Year Counselor Program was established in 1938 and has been ever since an intrinsic and essential component of Yale's advising system for first-years. The program has evolved in many ways over the years, but the general purpose of the program has remained the same: to help ease the transition of incoming first-years to the academic, social, and cultural life of Yale College. Applicants are urged to seriously consider how serving as a counselor fits into their plans and obligations for senior year. They are also encouraged to discuss the prospect of applying for a position with their residential college dean. Heads of residential colleges, cultural center directors, and current first-year counselors may also be useful to consult. While the responsibilities of counselors are heavy, and the demands made on their time and energy are great, the opportunity to support students encountering Yale for the first time is profoundly important and uniquely rewarding. In the eyes of many first-years, no position at Yale is more significant; and for many counselors, no other job is more satisfying.

The AMC is an interdisciplinary student organization among the Yale health professional schools that seeks to collaboratively enhance professional and public education concerning substance use; to promote and foster the interests of students, health professionals, and advocates for substance use assistance and recovery; and to encourage scholarly inquiry concerning substance use disorders as they impact health care professionals and the public that we seek to serve.

The Africa SIG is a group of engaged students interested in the environmental challenges and opportunities on the continent. The purpose of Africa SIG is two-fold: (1) to serve as a forum for information exchange and research support for members; (2) to create opportunities on campus to engage with the vibrant culture of Africa. The SIG hosts and co-sponsors talks with scholars and practitioners, movie screenings, and cultural experiences to share the colourful traditions that have existed for centuries in Africa.

Vision:

To foster a vibrant community of Black scholar-leaders and others who are committed to preserving and promoting the historical, cultural, intellectual and social movement traditions of the African Diaspora at Yale, in New Haven, and throughout the world.

Mission:

Established in 1969, the Afro-American Cultural Center ("the House") has a rich history of serving as Yale's home away from home for its Black student body and all campus and local community constituents who wish to learn about and celebrate the cultures and traditions of the African Diaspora.

The House facilitates its community members' success in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and advocacy through advising, empowerment cultural enrichment, educational programming, social development, and career preparation.

Mission
The purpose of Heritage Theater Ensemble shall be to foster the development of Black theater in the Yale-New Haven community: to provide a forum for the expression of Black (and other minority) talent in all aspects of the performing arts and to generate and promote a collective, artistic consciousness within the organization. Similarly, Heritage Theater Ensemble's promotion of artistic endeavors within New Haven shall be a means of developing and sustaining Black (minority) arts as a means of politicizing art-production within the local community.
