What is the role of art and aesthetics in social and legal movements?

How do we expand modes of practice by applying art law to human rights and cultural heritage issues?

When can our skills be mobilized to support artists and movements in their work?

These questions are the impetus for INTERSECTIONS. Our vision for this conference is that it will be the launch point for a community of academics, practitioners, artists, activists and students who all share a purposeful commitment to justice and a curiosity about the transformative potential of work at the intersection of art and law. We hope that INTERSECTIONS, a gathering envisioned as an annual opportunity to delve into particular contexts and applications of this type of work, will foster critical discussion, imaginative scholarship, and cross-field collaboration.

Multidisciplinary

We believe conversations about the law are limited by narrow scope and that engagement with other disciplines is not only exciting, but necessary. We are proud to make space at Yale Law School for new modes of discourse and academic exploration. We hope INTERSECTIONS will be one of many opportunities for community members to come together to engage on contemporary and historical issues of vital importance.

Law Student Organized

Bringing INTERSECTIONS to fruition is a labor of love. Our Committee works to build a cohesive program and coordinate the moving pieces needed to make the conference possible. As a conference designed top-to-bottom by students who saw the opportunity to fill a gap in legal education, we are particularly excited to shape an intellectual community and to facilitate academic exploration at what we hope will become an institutional level.
