Welcome! We are thrilled you have landed on our website and we hope this means you are considering attending law school. La Sociedad of Latine Law Students (LaSo) at Yale Law School (YLS) is here to support you as you navigate the application process! Here you can learn more about our diverse and vibrant Latine community at YLS and access a few helpful resources from current students.
We believe it is critical to have more Latine students at the Law School in order to bring their diverse voices and backgrounds to our community. LaSo is committed to making YLS a welcoming space for all members of the Latine community, and we embrace the vast racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic diversity of our membership. Our programming typically includes academic resources, professional development support, a buddy program for 1Ls, support for scholarship, robust alumni engagement, life-long friendships, and many social events (including a weekend retreat!)
We would like to share with you sample application materials from current and recent LaSo members. It is important to keep each application component in perspective and to feel confident that your application will be reviewed holistically. Although the YLS application has changed this year, sample diversity statements are included as additional examples of application materials. Please remember that successful applications come in all forms, and what is most important is that your application conveys your own unique experiences, background, talents, and your 'why' for applying to law school. Authenticity is key!
We know that the law school application process can be overwhelming. It was not so long ago that we were applicants ourselves, and though many of us were uncertain about our chances, we made it here and are so glad we decided to apply. ¡Si se puede!
Please stay connected with LaSo by following us on Instagram @yls.laso or visiting our website to learn more about our community. If you have any question or would like to connect with current LaSo law students, please contact us. Please do not hesitate if we can be helpful to you in any way. We wish you all the best during this process!
Cheering you on,
The 2024-2025 LaSo Board
