Details
Venerable Uttama (古源), born in 1965 in Fujian Province, China, transformed from a successful telecommunications entrepreneur into a dedicated Buddhist monk. After founding his business in 1996 and taking it public in 2002, he established the Beijing Ren Ai Charity Foundation in 2006, earning recognition for his impactful public welfare projects. In 2004, he fully embraced Buddhism, immersing himself in various traditions before founding China’s first Theravada meditation monastery, Dhammavihārī Forest Monastery, in 2012. He was ordained in 2013 under the guidance of Burmese master Pa-Auk Sayadaw. Since then, he has spearheaded numerous spiritual initiatives, including collaborations with the University of Chicago for Buddhist studies and the establishment of the International Academy of Pali and Tipitaka. Venerable Uttama is celebrated for his applied research in Abhidhamma, his influential "The Path of Awakening" teaching series, and the creation of the "Happy Mindfulness" online platform, all of which have significantly advanced Buddhism and mindfulness practices worldwide.
