Fellows' Tips of the Week

Sarah and Tayah’s West Campus Tip of the Week - Looking for a new pizza place to check out? Head to Zeneli Pizzareia in Wooster Square for delicious Naples-style pizza and ricotta e miele!

Adrian and Larissa’s Health and Wellness Tip of the Week - The Center for Business and the Environment at Yale is hosting an event with Florence WIlliams, author of "The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative," on Thursday, March 18th, from 4-5pm. Join in on a conversation with Williams about the science behind nature's positive effects on the brain. Register here.

Connor & Jen and Taryn & Johnny's Spouse and Family Tip of the Week - Are you getting outside with your family or partner to enjoy the nicer weather? Learn some fun tips on how to use nature to tell what’s coming, and impress the rest of your party with your skills!

Caitlin and Cecilia's Public Service Tip of the Week - If you are fluent in more than one language and looking to use those skills, consider volunteering for Translators Without Borders. Aside from translating medical documents or for crisis response, you can help with other aspects of the organization such as project management and fundraising.

Saiti and Jing's International Tip of the Week - On March 17th, join OISS and Yale Women's Basketball Coach Allison Guth and Assistant Coach Emma Golen to learn more about this U.S. basketball tournament. After learning about the tournament, OISS staffers Luca and Molly will teach you how make your very own March Madness Bracket to compete for bragging rights and Yale swag. They will walk you through the bracket scoring system so you can track your progress during the games, and keep up with the conversation with your U.S. classmates and co-workers! Bracket champions will be announced in April and they will win some great Yale swag. Don't miss out! Register here!
 

Jo McDougal's New Student Group Tip of the Week - Do you stutter and want to connect with other Yalies who also stutter? Started this year by three grad students, SAY is a place for Yalies who stutter to get to know each other, discuss stuttering related topics and share resources, and begin to build a community at Yale. We also welcome fluent students who have a special interest in stuttering. Join the YaleConnect group here!

Jen's Wellness Challenge Tip of the Week - Spring is just around the corner! Registration for the Yale Trail 2021 is now open! The Yale Trail is a fun and interactive 6-week online wellness challenge. The goal is to earn 25+ points/week by recording daily exercise minutes or steps, eating five servings of produce and making meaningful connections. Start or join a virtual team of colleagues for added motivation.

Sam's Grad Org Leaders Tip of the Week - McDougal GSL is starting a NEW section of the Weekly Gradu Student  Life Notes, where we can advertise upcoming events from GSAS Student Clubs and Organizations! Does your group have an upcoming event that you'd like us to advertise? Want to advertise your group's upcoming event in the Graduate Student Life Notes? Lisa's Pi(e) Day Tip of the Week - t It's 3.14 - International Pi Day, so celebrate our favorite irrational number with some math trivia, jokes and memes, play the Pi number challenge with your friends check out Jorge Cham's PhD Comics Pie Chart on writing your thesis, and of course eat some Pie - whether your favorite apizza pie New Haven variety or sweet pie!

Apply to be a 2021-2022 McDougal Graduate Student Life Fellow to create student life programs, meet and collaborate with other students and administrators, and develop your leadership and teamwork skills, and get paid! GSAS full-time degree students, in residence in Greater New Haven and in years 2-6 during the next academic year are invited to apply in any of 8 GSL program areas. Fellows serve 5-8 hrs per week and receive an honorarium. Applications close Friday, March 19th at 12pm noon. Interviews will be conducted over Zoom.

The university is strongly discouraging unnecessary travel for students, faculty and staff for the duration of this public health crisis. If you must travel outside of the Greater New Haven CT area in Spring 2021, as a GSAS Student you are required to submit a Travel Notification Form to GSAS HSL IN ADVANCE of any travel. Upon return, you must do required 10 day quarantine or 2 negative tests (Day 1 and day 5) before returning to any on-campus activities or access.

Are you looking for a fun, new craft to add to your repertoire? If this is you, then join your McDougal fellows for a relatively easy DIY Macrame project! Macrame is a form of textile created using different knotting techniques. For our time together we have chosen a beginner friendly mini macrame wall hanging to completely. This design will introduce us to 3 types of knots used in Macrame and is a great start for new practitioners. We will provide the materials needed to complete your new favorite wall hanging!

We wanted to call this "you’ve been sitting at your desk all day, and this is what you should do so you don’t permanently damage your body" but it was a little long. Join yoga instructor and mobility expert Jeremy Bennett for a weekly class to keep us all moving. The exercises demonstrated may be a little different each week but you can join at any time. No special equipment needed. Accessible for all fitness levels.

The Graduate School invites nominations for its annual Public Service Awards for GSAS students who engage in public scholarship, disciplinary-related community outreach, and community service. The winners are recognized at GSAS Convocation and each receive $1,000 prize. You may nominate yourself or another graduate student. Nominations are due by April 1.
