The Peer Liaison Program, now in its thirteenth year, was created to provide an additional layer of mentoring through a wealth of events/initiatives to support first-year students through their transition to Yale College, especially those who belong to systematically minoritized groups. Peer Liaisons (PLs) are a select group of trained, upper-class student leaders affiliated with the Office of LGBTQ Resources, the University Chaplain's Office, the Office of International Students and Scholars, Student Accessibility Services and Yale's four cultural centers (Afro-American Cultural Center, Asian American Cultural Center, La Casa/Latinx Cultural Center, and Native American Cultural Center). PLs actively advocate for first-years students to seek academic, social, and personal support from various centers and offices across campus. PLs can also serve as an additional resource for First-Year Counselors and residential college deans. Furthermore, PLs and First-Year Counselors communicate occasionally about students they may have in common and provide helpful advice and suggestions towards the success of those students. It is not uncommon to find several First-Years Counselors who have previously served as PLs.
