What resources are available to me as a first-year counselor?

For a breakdown of who to contact in specific circumstances, please see our Who Can Help Me and When page or the Resources for Students in Distress website created by the Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life.

We also encourage you to seek guidance and advice from the Old Campus Fellows, Peer Liaisons, and Camp Yale Leaders cohort. Additionally, the Office of Student Affairs is a critical resource for FroCos.

What are some ways that I can start conversations with my first-year cohort?

Conversations ultimately are at their best when they occur naturally. However, we have two prompts available that you may find helpful as ice breakers with your new First-Year students:

  1. Reflect on the courses that you particularly enjoyed in high school. Why did you like them? Was it the subject matter, the method of inquiry, or the nature of the assignments? Your answers might guide your course selection in your first year and beyond.
  2. Think about your favorite extracurricular activities. What inspires you to devote time to them? Look for courses that will allow you to develop a broader perspective on these interests or to strengthen relevant skills

Undergraduate Regulations (URegs)

When issues arise, the best practice is to consult the URegs which provides detailed guidelines regarding campus regulations and offenses, as well as procedures, policies, and penalties.
