Founded in 2019, Cadence of Yale is Yale's premier competitive a cappella group. A regular participant in the annual International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), the group is dedicated to telling stories through music as well as to collaborating with the global a cappella community. Through original arrangements, choreography, and thoughtful music curation, Cadence seeks to unlock music's communicative power with every performance.

As an SATB group whose ever-changing repertoire spans all musical genres and draws influences from classical music, folk, rock, and pop culture alike, Cadence welcomes singers of all backgrounds and abilities. In a school that focuses so heavily on tradition, Cadence aims to break the mold.

Doox of Yale is an a cappella group founded in 1952 by Basil "Duke" Henning, former head of Saybrook College. The first tenor/bass group at Yale to become all-gender, Doox prides itself on both a rich history of tradition and forward-looking communal and musical values. From Drew Barrymore's birthday party to the Steinway Club of Puerto Rico, Kylemore Abbey to the White House, Doox has sung in venues across the world, entertaining audiences with heartfelt singing and tongue-in-cheek humor.

Living Water is Yale's first Christian a cappella group. Founded in 1979, Living Water at Yale exists to spread the Gospel, the good news of God's love and desire for relationship with all of humankind fulfilled through Jesus Christ. As a group, we spread the Gospel by sharing our testimonies of God's faithfulness, singing music that tells His story, glorifying Him through our craft, and reflecting His love and truth in our service toward Yale, New Haven, our respective home communities, and each other.

Pitches & Tones was founded in 2011 as an a cappella group independent of all other singing groups and councils. We perform a variety of member-arranged songs covering a broad spectrum of genres, often coupled with innovative choreography. Our objective is to find creative, entertaining, and enriching ways to share our passion for music with audiences both at Yale and beyond. Giving back is also central to our members, and we often perform at several informal charity events each year.

Shades is an all gender a cappella group founded to celebrate music of the African Diaspora. It is our objective to offer a unique, musically excellent, and spiritually enriching performance experience to audiences at Yale University and beyond. Drawing from the diverse backgrounds of our members and the oral traditions of Black people across the globe, we strive to portray authentically the complexity of the Black experience. In addition to mastering the style of our music, we develop an appreciation of its history and roots in order to educate audiences about our music's lineage.

The Singing Group Council serves as the administrator for the majority of Yale's a cappella community. Our primarily duties are to facilitate the audition process at the start of the year, organize groups' concert dates throughout the second semester, and serve as a liaison between Yale's a cappella community and performance venues in New Haven.

Founded in 1914, the Spizzwinks(?) of Yale University are America's oldest underclassmen a cappella group, dedicated to the promotion of group harmony singing to foster support for music and the arts.

Taking each 'wink to perform on all six inhabited continents and their hometown, the Spizzwinks are committed to singing, family, service, and music education.

Purpose: The Yale Alley Cats is a world-renowned undergraduate a-cappella group founded in 1943. Our mission is to sing wonderful music together, become better musicians through vocal performance and rehearsal, to share our music to Yale's campus and audiences across the world, and, most of all, to cultivate meaningful friendships that last a lifetime. Although initially founded as a Jazz group, our over-400-song repertoire ranges all the way from Harry Styles to Michael Jackson. As the first internationally-touring undergraduate group at Yale, The Yale Alley Cats have funded trips to Beijing, Sydney, Istanbul, and on our most recent tour, to Geneva, Doha, and Cape Town. We've had the pleasure to perform for icons such as President Barack Obama, collaborate with Grammy-winning singers and songwriters, and release several albums, with a new album coming this year! As one of Yale's oldest a-cappella groups, The Yale Alley Cats strive to uphold the strong tradition of a-cappella music that has become such a signature of Yale's student life.

As of 1981, Yale's vibrant a cappella scene featured a dozen underclassman groups of every variety. However, seven senior women felt that a key part of their musical experience was missing – a senior group. These seven seniors founded Whim n' Rhythm as an answer to the decades-old tradition of The Whiffenpoofs. Thirty-six years later, the 13 singers of Whim n' Rhythm represent the best and most experienced female musicians of the senior class.

Each year, Whim has continued to grow into a full-force presence on Yale's campus and on both the national and international stages. The group tours domestically and in the greater New England area yearly, visiting locations from New York and Los Angeles to Hong Kong and Cairo, and recently founded a full-fledged Alumnae Board to help build the group's legacy from beyond Yale's campus. Post-commencement, the group traditionally takes a five-to-seven week World Tour, hitting nearly every continent.

Prospective singers audition in the spring of their junior year to be tapped into Whim for their senior year the following fall. Whim represents nearly every underclassman singing group, a variety of residential colleges and academic majors, and hometowns ranging from coast to coast.

Yale Out of the Blue (OOTB for short, pronounced "oot-bah") is a co-ed, undergraduate, pop-rock A Cappella group founded in 1986. Our primary aim is produce an innovative branch of A Cappella that delights audiences of all ages across the world. Within our group, we strive to foster an inclusive community, where people representing different backgrounds come together and sing in harmony. We aim to maintain a diverse repertoire of songs to include not only varying genres, but also artists of color.
