Mission 1: Educate
As a relatively new field, chemical biology has been growing tremendously over the past few years. We aim to make contributions to the further promotion of the chemical biology field, and help scientists within or without this field better understand what the field entails and its potential to contribute to the frontiers of science. ICBS-Yale is dedicated to educating academics about chemical biology, starting locally with the Yale community, and then expanding to the greater New England area, working together with the ICBS-Boston Chapter.

Mission 2: Appreciate
As the chemical biology field starts to gain more appreciation, many academic institutions are looking to expand in this area. However, it has been noticed that graduate and post-doctoral trainees in chemical biology might still be at disadvantage and sometimes overlooked during job hunting due to the lack of robust understanding of this new field. ICBS-Yale will make efforts to garner more respect and appreciation for this discipline, hoping to bring trainees tremendous benefits in their future career development.

Mission 3: Bridge
ICBS-Yale is dedicated to better bridging the siloed worlds of trainees in the biological and biomedical sciences and trainees in chemistry. We aim to foster communication, collaboration, and community between these disparate research areas.

Mission 4: Connect
ICBS-Yale aims to build stronger connections between academia and industry, and thus provide professional resources to chemical biology trainees, as well as to those who conduct scientific research at the interface between chemistry and biological & biomedical sciences. Yale-based biotech startup companies and therapeutic innovation efforts launched by Yale faculties will also be exploited as tremendous resources within the Yale community, which could be more accessible for Yale trainees.

As a summary of all previously listed missions and purposes, ICBS-Yale is dedicated to the career development of Yale chemical biology trainees, as well as to those who conduct scientific research at the interface between chemistry and biological & biomedical sciences.

Ludi et Veritas is a Yale board gaming club. Our goal is to bring people together to play board games. We meet regularly (usually weekly) to play and teach board games that promote the social interaction, intellectual stimulation, and just plain fun that comes out of unplugging from our busy lives. Ludi et Veritas is committed to make board games inclusive to all members of the Yale community. We have members that are undergraduates, graduate/professional students, postdocs, and Yale staff. The goal of the New Haven Science Fair Program is to work with students and teachers from New Haven Pre-K through Grade 12 classrooms, to help them carry out investigative hands-on science fair projects in order to promote skills in critical thinking, the scientific process, and science communication.

The program now engages about half of the population of the New Haven Public School system (over 8,000 students) and almost all of its schools (43 schools), utilizing more than 200 volunteers for mentors and judges each year.

Pathways to Science is Yale's coordinated STEM outreach infrastructure that provides an overarching infrastructure for the many and varied STEM programs and events for local pre-college students at Yale. Guided by a steering committee of Yale senior scientists and administrators, the Office of New Haven Affairs serves as a central hub for this initiative, both assisting Yale faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates in designing and implementing STEM programming as well as managing contacts and relationships with participating school districts, teachers, parents, and pre-college students. The more than 1,800 Pathways to Science Scholars are considered the youngest members of Yale's scientific community and are invited throughout the year to special events, academic lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, summer programs, and research opportunities.

As WISAY (Women and Gender Minorities in Science at Yale), we are dedicated to promoting the interests of female, transgender, and non-binary scientists and advocating for gender equality in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Historically, only a small fraction of science degrees were awarded to women, but in recent decades, women's overall participation STEM fields has steadily increased. Today, women earn half of all bachelor's degrees in science. The involvement of women and gender minorities in advanced study and careers in STEM fields continues to grow. However, women are still underrepresented in many STEM fields and face significant challenges at the highest levels of these professions. WISAY seeks to help overcome these disparities by supporting women and gender minorities at all career levels through mentoring, networking, career development, and community building.

The student outreach division focuses on providing access to science education and science communication opportunities and resources, available at Yale and within Yale's networks, to engage, empower, and advance underrepresented, disadvantaged, and marginalized individuals in the biological and biomedical sciences to increase career readiness.

The student advancement division is committed to preparing underrepresented students in BBS to successfully navigate the next stage of their academic career and transition into non-academic or academic sectors. The Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (YJBM) is a graduate and medical student-run, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the publication of original research articles, scientific reviews, articles on medical history, personal perspectives on medicine, policy analyses, case reports, and symposia related to biomedical matters. YJBM is published quarterly and aims to publish articles of interest to both physicians and scientists. YJBM is and has been an internationally distributed journal with a long history of landmark articles. Our contributors feature a notable list of philosophers, statesmen, scientists, and physicians, including Ernst Cassirer, Harvey Cushing, Rene Dubos, Edward Kennedy, Donald Seldin, and Jack Strominger. Our Editorial Board consists of students and faculty members from Yale School of Medicine and Yale University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. All manuscripts submitted to YJBM are first evaluated on the basis of scientific quality, originality, appropriateness, contribution to the field, and style. Suitable manuscripts are then subject to rigorous, fair, and rapid peer review.

Yale Swing, Blues, and Fusion is the non-competitive swing and blues dancing community on campus and in the New Haven area. We provide a space for people to get together and dance in a fun, informal setting.

COMMUNITY
Yale Swing, Blues, & Fusion is an intentional dance community. We intend to be a friendly, welcoming, including, and safe space. By entering our community, we ask that you help us uphold those values.

INCLUSIVITY
We strive to give a good time to everyone coming to our community. To help us do that, we ask everyone to dance, regardless of their gender, age, race, religion, sexual orientation or experience! It's more fun when everybody's dancing! We also like to talk to people in a friendly way! Treat people as your fellow human beings!

CONSENT
Both on the dance floor and outside of it, we make sure to ask someone's consent before we do anything. We ask people to dance verbally, and if they want to lead or follow, or if they may dance your preferred role.

If anyone makes someone else uncomfortable, they will be held accountable for doing so. Accidents happen, but it doesn't mean someone doesn't have to apologize!

If anyone is uncomfortable during a dance, we encourage them to ask for more space, a lighter touch, or anything they need. If they don't feel safe, they can walk away from the dance. Please let an organizer know if they're feeling discomfort!

It's perfectly fine to turn down a dance. Be gracious and move on!

COLLABORATIVE WORK
We hope that everyone who finds these values awesome will share them! If anyone sees behavior that seems to not be respecting those values, we can encourage them to either address it with that person or with an organizer.

Our community is run by members of GSAS and the community and is completely based on volunteering work.

1. Yale Venture Club is an independent, non-political, and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social and intellectual networking for all students within the Yale community, particularly for graduate students interested in equity investment and entrepreneurship.
2. Unite entrepreneurs, industry experts, VC/PE investors, and all others with a genuine interest in the venture field among the Yale community.
3. Establish a strong and long-lasting connection among all club members (including but not limited to current students and alumni across all Yale schools).
4. Aim to connect investors and startups resources within and beyond the Yale community to help further the growth of venture capital talents and startup founders, thus further enhancing the influence among different communities beyond the Yale campus.

We are inspired to perform plays with bilingual (Mandarin and English) versions, so as to facilitate cultural conversations and build a bridge between the theater work based in these two language mediums. We also see great value in forming such a cultural club in light of the spike in anti-AAPI sentiments since the start of the pandemic. We are naming the club "Vermilion Theater" as the vermilion bird (a phoenix-like being) is a symbol of tenacity and resilience in Chinese mythology. As we learn about the possibility of safely returning to theater in a world forever changed by COVID, we hope that our organization will bring long-isolated people together, share a sense of normalcy and build a much needed community.

The purpose of YANIS shall be to promote and develop the community of Yale students and postdocs from the Newly Independent States (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan) by the means of language and cultural accommodations. YANIS is also open to all Russian-speaking students and those interested in learning Russian.
