Social Gathering Safety and Reporting

Response to Unsafe Gatherings

Beginning 7:00 AM on March 1st, 2021, students are permitted to host gatherings for enrolled students both on and off-campus. Events hosts are expected to register all on-campus and indoor gatherings that may reach up to 7-10 people using the online Gatherings Registration Form. Documentation of on-campus events enables campus administrators and public health officials to track the spread of COVID-19 in events of infection or transmission. Additionally, the Gatherings Registration Form is crucial for residential college Public Health Coordinators (PHC) to be able to follow up on reports submitted to the CRC regarding unsafe gatherings.

If an on-campus gathering is reported, the process below will be followed depending on the situation:

Initial Report

  • If a student is concerned about the safety of an on-campus gathering (lack of mask wearing, transmission risks, social distancing, etc.) they are permitted to directly contact the event coordinator or hosts to attempt to resolve the concern.
  • Students and members of the Yale community concerned about the safety of an on-campus gathering can report the gathering directly to their PHC by emailing them, or by calling the on-call PHC line: 203-737-1414. PHC

Gathering On-site Assessment

  • If the gathering has been found to be in compliance with the Yale Community Compact, security and the PHC will document the check-in, and the gathering will be allowed to continue. No administrative action will be taken, unless Student Affairs needs more information or clarity about the event.
  • If the gathering has been found to be in violation of the Yale Community Compact, Yale Security will shut down the gathering and document the check in. Students at the gathering can expect to receive communications from the Compact Review Committee (CRC). It is crucial that students follow up honestly to the CRC about the circumstances of the event.
