There are many opportunities to engage with the YLS community through student organizations including a wide range of affinity groups, academic interests, political groups, projects, competition groups, clubs, and more.
All YLS student groups must be open to all YLS students.

Student Organization Registration
Student Organization Registration Process
All student organizations must re-register each spring through OSA's Yale Connect student organization registration form. This process helps OSA keep track of active organizations and provides a format for submitting documentation of events and spending as well as request funding for the following academic year. If a student group does not re-register by that year's stated deadline, the student organization is deemed inactive and ineligible for funding. If inactive, the organization must apply for reinstatement as a new student organization by the following year's deadline.
New Student Organization Proposals
Students interested in submitting a proposal for a new student organization must complete an online application through OSA's Yale Connect form. A complete application for review includes the following: the proposed student organization name, the mission/purpose for the group & how it meets an unmet need at YLS, anticipated membership, and proposed activities with purpose, anticipated attendance, and budget estimates. Review Yale University's policies for the use of the Yale name by student organizations.
New Student Organization Criteria
Students should review existing student organizations at Yale Law School to ensure that the proposed organization does not duplicate any other organization's mission, programmatic efforts, or a majority of the organization's membership base. If there is an unmet need, an application for a new student organization may be submitted during that year's established application timeframe. Because adding new organizations means decreasing or limiting funding of existing organizations that have already proven successful, students are encouraged to work with current student organizations to create new programs or engage in shared activities when possible.
New Student Organization Review Process
Student Representatives review all submitted applications after the established deadline each spring. While there are a number of factors considered, a key focus of the review is to determine whether it meets an unmet need without the opportunity to fall under the umbrella of an already established student organization. Should a student organization be denied recognition, they may reapply for recognition status the following year with the procedure set forth above.
