The Africa SIG is a group of engaged students interested in the environmental challenges and opportunities on the continent. The purpose of Africa SIG is two-fold: (1) to serve as a forum for information exchange and research support for members; (2) to create opportunities on campus to engage with the vibrant culture of Africa. The SIG hosts and co-sponsors talks with scholars and practitioners, movie screenings, and cultural experiences to share the colourful traditions that have existed for centuries in Africa.

The Center for Green Chemistry & Green Engineering at Yale is addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges at the nexus of resource issues. Green Chemistry and Green Engineering represent the fundamental building blocks of sustainability and our chemists and engineers are creating the scientific and technological break-throughs that will be crucial to the future success of the human economy. DocComm is the branch of the Student Affairs Committee comprised of and representing the doctoral (graduate and postdoctoral students) community:

1. Mission: The Student Affairs Committee (SAC) is an elected body of active students at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES). SAC is dedicated to facilitating communication and understanding among the F&ES student body, administration, and staff; advocating on behalf of the student body on pressing issues; supporting student interest groups and executing a limited number of official duties.
2. Principles: SAC is designed to be a cooperative, non-hierarchical, transparent, and nimble body. SAC will not discriminate based on age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, race, color, creed, religion, national origin, political orientation, or physical abilities, and will actively strive to combat discrimination in all its forms. SAC strives to include the interest of the F&ES community including current students, administration, staff, alumni, and the broader Yale and New Haven communities.

The Yale School of the Environment Energy Student Interest Group works on a variety of fronts to increase opportunities and knowledge of the energy sector at Yale. Our activities include hosting guest speakers, running workshops, organizing field trips, and providing networking opportunities for students focused on the nexus between energy and the environment. In addition, we work closely alongside faculty to expand the number of energy-focused course offerings at YSE and to bring in experienced industry professionals as guest lecturers.

Some of our past events include a visit from Jeff Semancik, Director of Radiation at DEEP, to talk about nuclear; a series of chats with ├ÿrsted on wind; and a visit to Yale's power plant.

The Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI) is a capacity development program of the Yale School of the Environment (YSE). ELTI trains and supports people from all sectors and backgrounds to restore and conserve tropical forest landscapes using strategies that support biodiversity and livelihoods. Since 2006, ELTI has trained over 7,800 leaders throughout the tropics.

Students can engage with ELTI in a variety of ways including student internships, seminars and field trips, and summer research at ELTI sites in the tropics. We also invite you to engage with us for connections to our vast global network of partners and alumni, to access our extensive educational resources on tropical forest landscape management and to learn more about our 10+ years of experience working on capacity development.

Sustainable Food & Agriculture SIG aims to educate the YSE and larger Yale student body on the environmental issues and challenges of agriculture, and to highlight the agricultural ecosystem as an important component of ecosystem studies and management. It is also our goal to help students, staff, and faculty make the connection between the academic and the personal facets of agriculture, by illustrating how and where the food they eat is produced. The group works actively with local farmers and producers, as well as international agricultural and food system issues.

The Outdoor Rec Industry SIG (ORec SIG) aims to provide a space for YSE students to discuss the future of the outdoor industry, diving into its impacts and opportunities for environmental, economic and social benefit. This may include historic narratives on who recreates outside and why, the role of private companies (Patagonia, REI, The North Face, etc.), public land management policy (National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, etc.) as well as nonprofits that connect communities of all types to the outdoors. Topics for the SIG will cover sustainability in supply chains, innovations in materials, opportunities for justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in outdoor spaces, economic development in the rural United States, and others. Additionally, confronting racism both within Yale and in the outdoor recreation industry at large is central to the mission of ORec SIG. Additionally, ORec SIG notes that the ability of people across the country to enjoy time outside is enabled by land that was stolen from Indigenous peoples.

Founded in 1983, the Tropical Resources Institute (TRI) is an interdisciplinary, non-degree-granting program located within the Yale School of the Environment (YSE). TRI serves to facilitate and support student research and outreach activities throughout the tropics, primarily through granting research fellowships. TRI works closely with YSE students, advising them on research design, proposal development, and field methods, as well as facilitating in-country collaborations and partnerships with organizations and institutions working in the tropics. Within the broader Yale community, TRI serves as a clearinghouse for research and educational activities pertaining to tropical countries, societies, and environments.
